Sexual HealthApril 24, 2007 4:24 am

Sexual health means both physical and emotional health in matters concerning- sex, sexuality and reproduction. Sexuality is more than just sexual acts or reproduction. It includes our desires, feelings, what we do, our values and attitudes. Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system and to its functions and processes. Reproductive health therefore implies that people are able to have a satisfying and safe sex life and that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide if, when and how often to do so….

Reproductive health also includes safe development into adults, the avoidance of sexual and reproductive illnesses, the ability to choose when to have children, to conceive safely and to avoid unwanted pregnancy. It also involves good health care to avoid the complications of childbirth, abortion, use of contraceptive methods and the long-term effects of sexually transmitted and reproductive tract infections.

People learn about their sexuality, and about sex and sexual health, from different sources: parents, friends, teachers, radio, newspapers and television, work colleagues, community elders. When people have a concern about sexual health, it may be possible to go to formal health care services, such as clinics or hospitals, or to traditional health healers. Anyone to whom people go for advice or treatment is a sexual health career or educator.

Working with men…

Many sexual and reproductive health services focus only on the needs of women. In recent years, great effort has been made to improve women’s health, including their sexual and reproductive health. This has involved challenging the view that women are less important than men, and that inequality between men and women is the nature of things and cannot be changed. Real improvements have been made, and yet many people working with women have found that there are limits to what can be achieved unless they also work with men.

Excluding men from sexual health promotion means that women often have to take all the responsibility for both their own and their partner’s sexual health. If men and women understand how each other’s bodies work, they can understand each other better. Many men want to be involved in planning their families and looking after the health of their partners and their children.

SEX AND SEXUALITY FOR MEN

  • Both men and women should make a choice about their sexual lives.
  • Men and women should be responsible from their own feelings of shame, physical harm, guiltiness or fear.
  • Men should seek information about any issues relating to sex and sexuality that may affect them and to other people.
  • Educators or any community and health workers should involve men in sexual health education.

Clear SkinApril 23, 2007 2:52 am
A pimple is a result of a blockage of the skin’s pore.

Inside the pore are sebaceous glands which produce sticky sebum. When the outer layers of skin shed (as it does continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become ‘glued’ together by the sticky sebum. This causes a blockage in the pore, especially when the skin becomes thicker at puberty [1]. The sebaceous glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage, and this sebum harbours bacteria (P.Acnes bacteria). Since the body’s natural defence against bacteria is primarily phagocytes (white blood cells), these rush to the site behind the blockage (where the bacteria are). This is what gives some pimples the ‘whiteheads’ (unless the Phagocytes are deeper in the skin, which means you can’t see the ‘white’ caused by them). The white blood cells then destroy (by phagocytosis) the bacteria to prevent infection.

Treatment:
Common over-the-counter medications for pimples are Benzoyl peroxide and/or salicylic acid. Both medications can be found in many creams and gels used to treat acne through topical application. Both medications help skin slough off easier, which helps to remove bacteria faster. A regimen of keeping the affected skin area clean plus the regular application of these topical medications is usually enough to keep acne under control, if not at bay altogether. 1-2% of the population is allergic to Benzoyl peroxide treatments.

I was thinking `bout Health Care tips this morning. That’s why i turned my pc on and started browsing. Well, I’ve seen this one website of Dr. Douglas Beech and i found INFO’s and TIPS. Here’s one:

The following tips by The Prana Center:

General health recommendations
Start your day with stewed apples followed by unprocessed whole grain cereal. Avoid nightshades (potato, tomato, bell pepper, egglplant). Avoid large beans (favaore yellow mung dahl and french lentils). Avoid bananas. Avoid winter squash and instead favor summer squashes (zuchchini, yellow squash, etc). No processed food, no left-overs, no food with preservatives, no canned foods, and no sour/acidic foods (like vinegar and bottled dressings, instead favor the use of lime for such seasoning).

Transdermal recommendations
Apply transdermals on the targeted marma points using the ring finger, in a gentle clockwise concentric motion, for a repitition of 7, 14, or 21 times. Breath gently and deeply through the nose, taking the breath down to the lower abdomen. After applying the cream, press gently with the thumb for a minute or so and breath deeply.

Spice recipe
Cooking method: first add water to the pan and then add olive oil or ghee followed by the spice mixture prescribed. Heat for a minute or two until an aroma develops, and then add your choice of vegetables (or chicken/fish if recommended). This procedue will ensure that prana is present at its utmost as water is the medium to deliver the prana. When serving, sprinkle your food with the spice recipe as well.

Herbalized water
Boil 2 quarts of water and pour into a thermos containing your prescribed herbalized water recipe. Use whole seeds or herbs, not powders. Favor the organic variety of whole spice which is available from Frontier at Wild Oats or other health food stores. Sip this water throughout the day, but no later than 5PM. It is best to pour smaller amounts into a cup and let the water cool before sipping. For maximum effectiveness, breath slowly and deeply after taking 4-5 sips. Make a fresh batch daily, discarding any unused portions in the evening.

Deep breathing guidelies
Breath in from your nose and try to take the breath all the way down to the navel area, as that is the area of transmission to the rest of the body. If te breath stops about that area, the oxygen goes to the brain but is not fully distributed to the rest of the body. Try to breath this way as much as possible.

These are simple but effective basics for strengthening your health. TRY IT! :-)
