Certain foods are thought to aggravate acne. It may be helpful, therefore, to avoid chocolates, nuts, and fatty foods. Some doctors completely restrict dietary caffeine. If caffeine is restricted, the patient should inform that caffeine is found not only in coffee but also in many soft drinks.
If acne has caused scarring, this condition can be made less conspicuous by a chemical face peel or by dermabrasion. Under anesthesia, the outermost layers of the skin are removed by sandpaper or a rotating wire brush. Following dermabrassion, The skin feels raw and sore. Some serious exudates and crusting will take place, but the patient should not wash the area for five or six days and avoid picking or touching it until sufficient healing has occurred.
